NO ONE EVER REALLY DIES……

August 12th, 2008

ALWAYS GREAT TO SEE THE UNIFICATION! ALWAYS SUCKS WHEN ITS BECAUSE SOMEONE DIED……..Its like that in every family….you see people you have never met that are actually in your family that you NEVER met , when someone dies..

Death is alive in that way…it brings new life , new definition and new beginnings for everyone, including the person who “returned to the essence”.

MILWAUKEETALKEE will gather massively  to  pay homage to a dear friend and family member DJ ROCK DEE - YOU WILL BE MISSED BUT NEVER FORGOTTEN

COME OUT AND CELEBRATE THE LIFE!

TRIBUTE TO THE GREATEST!

August 12th, 2008

A LONG TIME AGO I REMEMBER HEARING “CHUCK D AND FLAVOR FLAV ARE ON 27TH & BURLIEGH!!!” News had spread through the hood that the Public Enemy number 1  had landed! Exciting thoughts raced through my mind, I thought they were doing a concert….what are they doing over there?……who?…..how can……I never made it out there to witness them. Later I  learned (and saw photos) that they were visiting Commander Mike Mcgee Sr…..wow…. at that time, (1990) Milwaukee was in national news because this local alderman named Mike Mcgee wouldn’t stop protesting , screaming , shouting and making demands of the city , state and national Government to help the crisis situation that even still exists today here in Milwaukeetalkee. The economic racism and discrimination that is still blatantly obvious and the social engineering that dates back before Bronzeville is what the Commander was calling attention to. And it worked.

Here was Freekin PUBLIC ENEMY an international hip hop act coming to see this Alderman from my city who was actually threatening guerilla warfare in the streets if conditions for black people didn’t change. I thought that was pretty diplomatic and also a very powerful statement using the magnetism of the most popular Rap group in the world who happened to be revolutionary artists to make your point to the youth. Over the years several big name rappers would come to town and stop to see the infamous Commander and pay their respects. Pioneer activists/artists X Clan nearly made Milwaukeetalkee a second home base and stayed working in the trenches with the Black Panther Militia, which Mcgee, once a member of the original Black Panther Party initiated in 1990 which led to the re-evolution of the New Black Panther Party which is a very influential and rapidly growing worldwide organization today. THANX.

PUBLIC ENEMY HAS ALOT OF HISTORY WITH MILWAUKEETALKEE

ON FRI. AUG. 15 @ STONEFLY A FEW OF THE BREW’S BEST WILL PAY THEIR RESPECTS BACK TO THE BEST THAT EVER DID IT & IS STILL DOING IT!

IF WE ARE IN THE CITY OF FESTIVALS, WHERE’S OURS?

July 29th, 2008

BY: Queen Ifama

I just gotta say it and it’s not going to be NICE!!!  Somebody fell asleep at the wheel and we are all casualties. Now that we have awaken and bruised (it does hurt, don’t it?), We need a caning folks, you know, a whooping for our negligence. Yeah as usual, many of you will get offended, but I don’t care, this MUST be said.  We should at least be embarrassed. We should all be prostrating to whatever force we believe is greater than ourselves and beg forgiveness. We should ask the forgiveness of our ancestors and we should really be asking our children to forgive us.

I awoke with this on my mind, especially after reading the latest Community Journal where the question for the Pulse Of The Community was: African World Festival has been canceled. What should be done to prevent this from happening again? Happening again?????? Yeah well of course, if we survive this fiasco, it shouldn’t happen again. However, in the city that touts itself as the “City of Festivals” the fact that people of African descent after 25 years of having one, will not have one speaks volumes to the masses of OUR people and it’s leadership in particular.  I am not interested in what it may seem to those outside of the African-American community.  I am more concerned with the internal image we have of ourselves that says: “We can’t be consistent”, “We don’t put our money where our mouths are”, “We don’t invest in our cultural expressions” yada, yada, yada but then we have the NERVE to blame our children and even adults amongst the masses who have no pride in being people of African descent, which manifests in their behavior.  I am not telling you what “I” think, these are the sentiments that I have heard since the news broke from individuals of whom I have spoken with.

Please, Please, don’t give me the excuse of debt left behind by an organization that has been off the map for three years!!!!  To be honest, we ALL know the truth about that one, don’t we? The real blame however, lies with each and every one of us.  Of course I begin with the leadership but it trickles on down to those of us who file through the gates and feel no obligation to actually PAY for a ticket always looking for a freebie, and lord knows I have had my share over the years, but I still manage to at least pay once.  When I do a calculation of the businesses and organizations in this community that are supposedly led and owned by Black people and those who sit on the Common Council and the County Board all the way to the State Legislator, oh yeah, and don’t let me forget the SPIRITUAL LEADERSHIP, who rake in thousands weekly, I am sickened.   You mean to tell me with all of these we can’t fund OUR festival?  I was not born and raised in Milwaukee (Not that it matters, but I went there because many of YOU always go there), but I love Milwaukee because I see it’s potential and that was the reason I settled here. Boy, am I getting more disappointed as the years pass.

Where is OUR pride?  When you Google festivals in Milwaukee, the first link that comes up has a page with African World Festival at the TOP of the list!!!  Everyone else comes AFTER ours.  I hear talk that sponsors could not be gotten as part of the problem,  still when I look at the list of successful businesses that are Black owned in this city, I can’t accept that as a excuse.  Want me to name them? Okay here are some, Burger King, Ponderosa, Lenas, IHOP, North Milwaukee State Bank, Columbia Savings and Loan, McDonalds, Legacy Bank, Speed Queen, CYD, the organizations that claim to work in the interest of Black people, what about those who are responsible for our spiritual needs. Isn’t that part of our culture as well? .  What happened to pooling resources to keep our festival alive?  Nooooooo, we couldn’t do that and now, at least for this year, as we point fingers, it is comatose. We say this is about OUR CULTURE and if this is true then WE should be the PRIMARY investors. I think of the principles of Kwanzaa, you know the ones we blow up in December and in particular I am focusing on are Ujima: Creative Work & Responsibility; Ujaama: Cooperative Economics; Nia: Purpose; when are we going to actually live up to them?

I am not calling for fresh blood, even though I am told that offers have been made to work on the AWF board and folks were brushed off. I wonder now if this could be true? d. Who knows what NEW thought might bring. However, what we do need is commitment and integrity. We need people who can work together and not argue and bicker. We need help from all of us and especially the leaders (who ever they may be) who organize it to remain committed and stay with it.  At the end of each Festival should be the planning of the next.  Donations can be made AT the festival and throughout the year toward the Festival, as we adopt the ideology that each and every dollar counts.  Recognition could be given to organizations that raise the most funds for the Festival.  It can be a competitive and fun effort for our people. If folks don’t start skimming, it can work. Canisters placed at every business for the African World Festival Fund, children selling candy, fundraisers like dances (and we know we like them) during the year and more. Our Black newspapers could donate advertising space (hell it’s a write off at the end of the year) as well as our radio stations to talk it up.  Barbers, beauticians, teachers, anybody who has an audience can be responsible for talking it up.  We could our young people to come up with ideas for entertainment; we have a lot of local talent instead of trying to pay other people ALL the time.  Younger children in various organizations can also be in programming throughout the days of the Festival with a focus on African history and culture. We need to stoop looking to get paid all the time and let the work of developing ourselves as people be the payoff as we see our children develop with pride in who they are.    I mean, come folks, this is not rocket science.

For some reason we feel as though we must have huge names to draw our people when no other festival with the exception of SummerFest does it. It is the cultural and ethnic pride that fuels the other ethnic festivals and it should be the same for ours.

Let’s take a deep breath and get focused. WE HAVE WORK TO DO!!

WHAT’S UP W/ THE LUV?

MILWAUKEETALKEE IN NATIONAL HEADLINES AGAIN……

Recently i was watching a show called “gangland” that comes on the history channel and you might be familiar w/ it - they examine ganglife in different parts of the world - this episode i caught they were talking about MilwaukeeTalkee - and the “MurdaMob” - I remembered the name from them bieng in the news a while ago - and now according to the Police chief - they are back … ask yourself how? - Is dude watching too much T.V or are they letting unrehibilitated, violent drug dealers and criminals right back into the communities they tried to destroy?

Or is that some crazy shit that the so-called founder for the street organization got out of prison less than 24 hrs before this happen - or is it even more crazy that they don’t have any suspects or evidence that says “Murda Mob” did it????

I remember also maybe two years sometime  ago reading in the Shepard Express that MPD had only a 55%success rate in solving homicide cases….

The people in the area effected by the 4th of July tragedy, whom are now not being to talkative with law enforcement and Ald. Hines have stated now that they repeatedly plead over & over again w/ MPD to do something about the escalating issues when they first noticed them starting……  It will be interesting to see how this plays out…

Yesterday teenager arrested , shots fired, guns siezed, police standoffs? whats really brewing in brewcity???

Well, we try not to dwell, report or only blog about the negative : check this

COORS/MILLER IS OFFERING A 10K REWARD FOR INFORMATION ON THE 4 HOMICIDES THAT HAPPENED ON THE FOURTH OF JULY. click the link for the “official” jsonline reports regarding the incident

Anyone with information about the killings is asked to call Milwaukee police at (414) 935-7360.

During a news conference Tuesday, Flynn said police were “making progress” in investigating the killings.

“Names have been brought to our attention. People are beginning to talk and point us in the right direction,” he said.

Flynn also said Tuesday that Akilah Crittenden, whom Flynn had described earlier as a founder of a gang known as the Murda Mobb, is now in custody on a parole violation.

Crittenden, 31, is not considered a suspect in the killings, but he was released from prison shortly before them, Flynn has said.

On Sunday, Flynn said the two men killed in the quadruple homicide were members of the Murda Mobb.

Claybrooks’ family says he’s not a gang member.

Ald. Coggs Challenges Students To Put Freedom In Writing

Alderwoman Slates Juneteenth Launch of Freedom Scholarship Essay Contest

It is important to remember the struggle for freedom that people of African descent in America went through not only on Juneteenth Day, but every day. And in that spirit of remembrance and also celebration, 6th District Alderwoman Milele A. Coggs is today launching the 1st Annual Freedom Scholarship Essay Contest.

Students responding to this year’s inaugural writing contest should analyze the concept of “freedom” and then, in an essay of 1000 words or less: (a) analyze why it is so vital that the remembrance, history and lessons of freedom be passed to a new generation; and (b) suggest what they, as students, can do to combat and prevent prejudice, discrimination and violence in our world today.

Two $500 scholarships will be awarded and excerpts from winning essays may be published, Ald. Coggs said.

AN AWFUL INJUSTICE & A CHALLENGE….

June 26th, 2008

An awful injustice took place in the small town of Milwaukee WI. I am in the health care advocacy field, and there have been fliers circulating in the community that have informed the public that there are funds available through FEMA to give out quest cards or as some of us know them Food Stamps. This information did not take long to spread through the non profit sector, and finally to the public. As a result there were thousands of people in line at the local welfare office on 12th and Vliet. The media reported 2,500 people in line for this benefit and who knows what else they may have been there for. This was disturbing to me for many reasons.

Let me start by saying this is not an attempt to bash the welfare office. They are understaffed to begin with at this point and they are working mandatory overtime. This is more a concern with the entire system and the dramatic flaws that it carries. When FEMA came in providing this assistance they set up no effective system to ensure that there was no additional rush in a city that already forces people to stand in line in front of agencies. If you have ever applied for some form of government aided benefit you are already aware that you need to bring a lawn chair and a good book, because you are gonna be here a while. But you offer a benefit to people that have not been tamed by the system to sit in these long lines for hours and you are asking for a riot. My people were accused of rioting and fighting, there were rumors of someone being stabbed which I have not personally confirmed. But despite the stories I hear about the chaos that insued that day, I know it was partically a casualty of those that were there to ensure order. I rode past the same location today and the police presence was at overkill. If you are a bank robber, today was the perfect day to go and do the job you have been planning because every cop in town was there instead of the bank you have been intending to rob. It makes no sense. We are not predisposed to crime just because we are among the poor. There is not a guarantee that poor people in a population will riot. But oppressed people are likely to take action in hopes to be heard. The problem is we are not a people of organization anymore.

I wonder what would have happend if there was an active black panther presence here in my home town? Would they have immediately responded to the scene as they normally would have done in such a situation? Where are the black revolutionists? The ones that should be are so selfish right now that they are not effectively organizing the community. We are irresponsible adults at this point. We sit in our little organizations and control a small population of people and are satisfied with the nothingness that we create. And we dare someone to come up against the bullshit we have built. We are devided. We are nothing to the machine. We make no difference in this state. And when I look to the black man to act as God as so many of you 5% ass niggas claim to be, you are acting as Satan. Selfish claiming me not us. It is time for all you wanna be G.O.A.T. emcees to get off your high ass horses and use that talent to free the bound in your community. You wanna put the mill town on the damn map? Talk about some righteous shit and stop talking about fuckin hoes and slangin’ and shit!!!! Your people need you now!!!!

Old heads, all of you need to stop being so afraid of the youth and return yo asses to what it meant to be young black and threatening!!!! You old professionals have forgotten what it took to gain the respect of your white and other nation collegues. And now that there are young professionals trying to join the ranks and you do nothing to mentor them into the system. You forgot why the hell you even got into this shit!!!!

I know I sound really angry and that is because I am. I am also disappointed. I am disappointed in my people. I am finding it hard to see the good in human kind these days. Nobody seems to give a fuck. And I am not saying all this because I am looking for someone to be there for me, it is because the entire world seems to be stuck on itself and no one is getting any higher as a result. For those of you that are accustomed to me always having a lighter side after I diss the world don’t look for it right now. I think every thing I see right now is a disappointment. Other than my real family this is a bunch of bullshit!!! But I hope that someone can spin this topic into a positive. Feel free to take a stab at it if you think you have the solution. I am waiting for it….
